Disneyland

We went to Disneyland last week to celebrate our granddaughter Katherine's birthday. (In the photo, Katherine is with her grandmother Katherine - e. g. my wife.)

The lines were much shorter than the last time we visited a few years ago. The weather was warm, but not hot. All in all a very pleasant experience.

In the crowds of Disneyland, one can not avoid noticing that obesity has become a major problem in America. It's scary.

Jim,

We just got back from Maui a few days ago. Strangely, I told my wife the same thing over there. The Hawaiian locals all know the country of origin of those that are heavier; they told us outright! They will tell you they all come from "the mainland." And they were right. Scary indeed. As a matter of fact, the Hawaiian population all realize they have their own problem now to deal with. The State Health Dept is trying to get the natives to return to the staple diet they all used to follow in decades past - fruit, vegetables, poi, and fish - and not the prototypical western diet. Hawaiians have turned increasingly to animal products of all types, and they realize there is a problem. FYI...gasoline on Maui & Oahu was 3.69 a gallon. Here in Indy we're paying only 2.59. SOI
