A Chorus Line

Last night, Katherine and I went to a performance of "A Chorus Line" at the Curran Theater in San Francisco. This is a revival production trying out here before moving to Broadway. This is a very strong cast. Performances are sold out here and my guess is that it will run in New York for a long time.

I could single out Ken Alan as Bobby, Natalie Cortez as Diana, or Charlotte d'Amboise as Cassie as being outstanding. They were. But those were big roles. The wonderful thing about this production is that every person in the cast sparkles in their role.

Probably I'm like the man that was always in love with the last girl that he met, but I will say it anyhow. "Chorus Line" and "West Side Story" are the two great American musicals of the twentieth century. Comments?

Sound of Music (1963). Don't know if it ever went to Broadway, but this was a pretty good one to me. At least a Top 5. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke were awfully good. SOI

Lets hear it for South Pacific. C'mon. And how about Oklahoma! I saw them both in the 40's (Mary Martin starred in S.P.). They left an indelible impression in my young mind then. Even though that could be attributed to developing youth I still hold those two as gold standards. And how about Kismet? Obtuse(guess who)one.

Yup. Developing youth. You hit it on the nose.
